TITLE: GIS Technician
DEPARTMENT: Information Technology – 201 McMorran Blvd. Port Huron, MI 48060
WAGE RANGE: II-E; $37,854 – $49,814 (Annually Adjusted)
HOURS: Full Time

• The GIS Technician posting is in compliance with the St. Clair County hiring policy guidelines instituted by the Board of Commissioners.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The GIS Technician is responsible for maintaining and updating all parcel and land information within the GIS system. This position performs GIS analysis and assists with maintenance of databases. The GIS Technician also assists County users and the public with GIS-related requests and assists with training in the utilization of the GIS system.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, EDUCATION:
• An Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, CAD or GIS required.
• Verifiable equivalent experience in GIS field will substitute for education.
• A minimum of two years GIS experience.
• Proven ability to understand and utilize a variety of technologies and GIS applications in order to effectively support clients.
• Proven ability to work well with peers, clients (users) and department heads.
• Effective communications skills both written and oral.
• Demonstrated training skills and effective leadership abilities.
• Proven skill in utilizing GIS software, especially the ESRI product suite
• Reasonable knowledge of surveying and drafting techniques
• Proven ability to portray a helpful, competent and professional image.
• Possess competent organizational skills.
• Must be proficient in the use of various equipment including workstations, printers, GPS units, cell phones and other related peripheral devices.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Prior to starting employment, the candidate must complete a satisfactory background check. The background check is understood to encompass all forms of pre-employment screening, including but not limited to: drug screen, physical, criminal background, driving record, sex offender registry, education, training and licensing verification, employment history, credit check, and professional and personal references.
• Must possess a valid State of Michigan operator license and maintain this license throughout employment in this position.
• Ability to travel to remote sites.
• Ability to work a flexible work schedule based on departmental needs.
