As we grow, we are seeking an experienced Junior Database Administrator (DBA) to work onsite at Langley AFB in Hampton, VA.
In this role, you will assist the Air Force GeoBase Enterprise DBA with managing an enterprise database providing mapping data for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications serving Air Force installations around the world.
Responsibilities:
Perform local and enterprise level Oracle database administration tasks at the direction of senior DBA staff
Perform basic Oracle database monitoring, tuning, and optimization according to enterprise system guidance
Ensure system availability and continuity by assisting GeoBase DBA with Oracle database backup and recovery operations
Implement and maintain organizational security policies regarding database roles, user accounts, object and system level privileges, and data access.
Utilize command line, GUI tools, and wizards for stored procedures, queries, etc.
Support database upgrades and production deployment releases
Assist with the installation of Oracle software service packs and cumulative updates as necessary
Perform bulk data loading and database export functions
Manage users in a multi-editor environment utilizing database versioning
Assist DBA with resolving database performance and capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues
Assist enterprise system end users with database, data access, and data editing technical issues and troubleshooting
Requirements:
Candidate must be a US citizen and eligible to obtain a DoD security clearance
Must have a current CompTIA Security+ certification or be able to obtain one within 6 weeks of hire date
Must have a bachelor’s degree with four years’ related programming and design experience in an enterprise database environment or six years’ related programming and design experience in an enterprise database environment
Must have 2+ years of experience with Oracle database administration working in Windows server environments
Must be familiar with Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, SQL Developer, RMAN backup and recovery planning, and Oracle Data Pump
Desired: experience with DoD and industry information security standards such as RMF and DIACAP, and familiarity with STIG cybersecurity methodology
Desired: experience with the Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) data model
Desired: previous experience with GIS, geospatial data, and/or ESRI software
Demonstrated technical writing abilities
Strong critical thinking skills
Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills
Acute attention to detail
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
Ability to work effectively without direct supervision and work independently once direction is provided
The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers and clients (government and military Geographic Information Officers and management staff)
