SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY
RESEARCH ANALYSIS SPECIALIST – GIS OPTION

RESEARCH ANALYSIS SPECIALIST – GIS OPTION vacancy at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN. This is a 60% position, $21.44 – $31.45/hour. This position includes organization, training, and education in the implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology for potential public and private users in Southwest Minnesota; will provide contract GIS-related services for regional users; identify and meet the needs of SMSU faculty and students for GIS services, including large format printing needs for the SMSU campus.

Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job):

  • Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Sciences or other appropriate degree.
  • Graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience with GIS software applications and website maintenance including construction, digitizing, data conversion, data management, and cartographic skills.
  • Experience teaching GIS courses, labs, workshops, or seminars.
  • Strong background and thorough knowledge of the theory and use of GIS and an extensive understanding of Systems Analysis and Design procedures for the implementation of GIS.
  • Knowledge of current, state-of-the-art computer and information technology systems, networking, hardware, and software.
  • Competence and training in the use of GIS software including, but not limited to, ArcView and ArcInfo.
  • Working knowledge of various computer operating systems and internet, website maintenance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization and the university.
  • Computer network administration skills/training.
  • Available to travel – up to 2 days/week; some overnight travel – up to 2 nights/month anticipated.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to support courses such as Precision Ag
